Twin Suicide Bombings At Baghdad Mall Kill 27 Injure 42

MEP: At least 27 people have been killed and 42 others wounded in two car bomb explosions outside a shopping mall in eastern Baghdad on Friday, police and hospital officials have said.

A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the first blast occurred just before Friday midnight when a car rigged with explosives was detonated at the car park of al-Nakheel Mall in Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad and the second one happened after an assailant blew up his explosive-laden car at the busy street outside the mall building shortly afterwards.

The Takfiri Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terrorist group claimed responsibility for both attacks.

Amaq news agency, the terror group’s website said in an online statement that two suicide bombers, one wearing a vest and the other in a car, had targeted “a gathering of Shi’ites” on Palestine Street.

The death toll is expected to rise.

Video footage uploaded onto social media appeared to show four separate fires, including two cars in flames, under a highway overpass near the mall.

Meanwhile, an unnamed source at Baghdad Health Directorate told Arabic-language al-Forat news agency that 35 people have been killed and 40 others injured in both acts of terror.
