The conflict even affected political groups in Iraq. This is what destroys the greatest, freest and most democratic nations.

It is noteworthy that, in recent years after Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terror group took control over large part of Iraq and as none of the tribes whether Muslim or Christian, Sunnis or Shiites, even Kurds weren’t safe from ISIS crimes, a good sign appeared in terms of unity in Iraq.

Iraqi people stood up united against these heinous efforts. And for the first time they stand up against sectarianism and tension between Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds which threatened to undermine the integrity of Iraq and its fragile democracy. Iraq’s political elite couldn’t put an end to solve the current crisis among the parties in Parliament.

This crisis made powerful countries, which have designs on Iraq for their economic and political interests, rapacious.  Upon perceiving threatening danger in region, Sunni and Shiite nomads united with Kurds and formed national resistance groups like Peshmerga that includes Sunni individuals and nomadic forces, and popular mobilization forces among which are a large number of Sunni fighters. In order to destabilize security in Iraq, there would be no other choice but to cause discords among Iraqi people. And this has precisely been the goal of the powerful countries over the last two years, which made not only Iraqi politicians and nation but also the resistance forces suffer dramatically.

Late last year, Iraqis witnessed the burning of the flag of Iraq and Kurdistan by some extremist opportunistic. Powers accountable for this event incited extremist groups to carry out such actions, assuming that people of Iraq would be easily affected by these measures.

However, the Iraqis’ unity of all different ranks speeded up especially after the government issued a statement and announced it by then government spokesman Khalid Shwani.

The statement warned against any split between nation and considered these actions against national values, pillars of the constitution, laws of Iraq and opposed to authority’s (Marjaʿiyah) requests which were about the consolidation of the unity of Iraqis in all perspectives, while the Peshmerga forces and mobilizing people along with the military and federal police and Sunni nomads are fighting the enemy.

Western powers, especially USA, and some of the Iraq’s neighboring countries try to provoke these disparities by approaching some of the parties, politicians and religious scholars like Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of the Sadrist movement, who had trouble with Al-Abadi’s government and some Iraqi political parties because of chronic corruption of the apparatus of government, and also by financial and political support.

The Iraqi people will not be divided again as long as there are people who integrate the foundations of national unity. And People’s decision and dogged determination to maintain national unity will not wane.
