Saudi Billionaire Prince Supports Women Driving In Saudi Arabia
MEP: Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has issued a public call for women to be allowed to drive in the conservative kingdom.
Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal made the call on Twitter: “Stop the debate: Time for women to drive.”
Following this brief tweets, Prince said in a statement emphasizing the need for immediate issuance of driving licenses for women and announced: “Preventing a woman from driving a car is today an issue of rights similar to the one that forbade her from receiving an education or having an independent identity.”
“They are all unjust acts by a traditional society, far more restrictive than what is lawfully allowed by the precepts of religion,” he added.
The Saudi prince said the driving ban was not just a rights issue, but also an economic one.
Currently, women have no right to drive in Saudi Arabia and have to employ servants for driving.
