Presidential Elections Results’ Announcement to Be Suspended

The IEC says the preliminary results of the presidential elections will not be announced on time but probably one week later.

According to the Independent Election Commission’s set calendar, today Saturday, October 19, the preliminary results of the presidential elections were scheduled to be announced.

IEC members say the challenge over 900 biometric machines will be among the factors delaying preliminary results.

Rahima Zarifi, a member of the IEC, says today the challenges and decisions of the commission will be publicized and that also will be said that why the preliminary results are not announced.

He emphasized that all problems and challenges would be made clear to the public.

According to the IEC’s initial plans, the check for biometric devices had to be completed Thursday night, but the checking process of data of 900 other devices had made challenges.

The announcement of preliminary results of the presidential elections are being suspended while many countries and foreign institutions, including the US embassy, had ​​said: “Better to be right than fast.”
