India To Invest $150 Million In Chabahar Port

chabaharKABUL: (MEP) The Indian government is planning to soon invest 150million dollars in Iran’s Chabahar port to increase capacity.

Indian government officials confirmed the report in a statement said Chabahar port is the main objective of free trade of the Indian Ocean as well as an Indian merchandises’ path in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In the contract that was signed last year between Iran and India, India allocated $150 million for the development of the port.

India is currently in the line of talks on the implementation of the project to facilitate increased trade and investment with Iran and other countries in the region, including Afghanistan.

Officials in the Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Afghanistan welcomed the move saying the implementation of Chabahar port project is in the interest of Afghanistan and the region.

Mosafir Qoqandi, a spokesman for the ministry said, raising the capacity of the port will be Afghanistan’s economic growth, as well as linking the countries of the region.

Commerce Ministry spokesman said, by building a new facility at the port of Chabahar, trade in Afghanistan, India and Central Asia would extensive.

Discussion on the port of Chabahar with Afghanistan, Iran and India continues since a few years. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah in his recent trip to Iran discussed and agreed issues with the officials of the country.
