Gunmen Attack Gas Factory in Jawzjan, Killing 3 Workers

gas factoryKABUL: (Middle East Press) Unidentified gunmen have reportedly attacked a gas factory in Shiberghan city, the capital of northwestern Jawzjan province, killing at least 3 workers of the factory, local official said Saturday.

The incident took place after gunmen attacked a security post of Khwaja Gogirdak gas factory and clashed with the workers late Friday night, provincial police Chief Col. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani said.

Three workers who were guarding the facility were killed in the gunfire, Jawzjani said, adding that insurgents managed to flee after the incident.

Director of the Afghan-Gas Enterprise of the Ministry of Petroleum and Gas said that security post was located three kilometers away from the factory.

He said that the authorities’ concerned were tasked to deploy security personnel to protect the facility but the problem had yet to be resolved.

More than a thousand people work on the Shiberghan Gas Factory. Security guards of the factory often come under attacks that caused casualties.
