Fire At Mexico Nursing Home Kills 16
KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 16 people were killed and 5 others wounded after a fire swept through a retirement home for poor people early Tuesday at the facility outside the northern border city of Mexicali, the mayor’s office said.
The identities of those killed in the fire have not been released and the cause of the fire remains known.
The health conditions of five wounded are reported to be serious after being taken to a hospital in nearby Mexicali, which sits across the border from Calexico, California.
Mayor Jaime Diaz Ochoa said 12 fire extinguishers and eight smoke detectors had been found at the home and that the nonprofit facility in a rural area about a half-hour drive from Mexicali had not been overcrowded.
