Explosion Kills Two, Injuries 80 In Madagascar Stadium

blast in MadagascarMEP: At least two teenagers were killed and up to 80 others wounded in a grenade explosion in Madagascar, the capital of Antananarivo during country’s national day celebrations, officials said.

The blast struck the Mahamasina municipal stadium at around 16:00 GMT on Sunday, just as a free concert was taking place to mark the nation’s 56th anniversary of independence from France.

President Hery Rajaonarimampianina said it was a “terrorist act”, and blamed it on “political divergences”.

“Divergences in point of view may exist between us… [But] if the leader does not suit you… you cannot kill the population,” he said in a statement broadcast on national television.

Pleading for calm, he added: “We will not respond to violence with violence.”

It was not immediately clear who or what was behind the explosion.
