Car bombing attack in Kandahar leaves 12 security personnel dead

Twelve security personnel have been killed and four others wounded in a car bombing in southern Kandahar province on Wednesday night, local officials confirmed on Thursday.

The blast happened in the Maroof district.

Zia Durani, a spokesman for the provincial police chief said the attack occurred after a suicide bomber driving a Humvee vehicle targeted a security forces base in the center of the district.

The armed Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. As two of the group’s spokesmen Qari Yousaf Ahmadi and Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters attacked the police headquarters and overran the district.
