Uzbek President: Afghan Peace Efforts Are Futile Without Russia
KABUL: (MEP) President of Uzbekistan says that the security of Central Asia’s first issue and determined efforts to solve the Afghan problems without Russia, are erroneous and futile.
Islam Karimov, President of Uzbekistan with Vladimir Putin, the Russian President during a meeting on Wednesday said “the war in Afghanistan will not end.”
Karimov said that the Afghan war cannot be seen any light at the end of the tunnel.
He called his talks with Putin as “open, clear and frank” said, “we feel that what is happening in the world, has a direct link to Central Asia. All what we see every day on television what we read in the press and internet, and those events which we pass, are all directly related.”
According to Karimov, Afghanistan, which borders with three Central Asian states of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan; is a place that is slowly engaged with disagreements and wars which does not have an ‘end’ to it.
He says the first issue of security in Central Asia and certain efforts to resolve the Afghan issue without Russia is ongoing and this approach is wrong in principle.
This comes as the Collective Security Treaty (CST) last week carried out joint maneuvers and have consolidated its borders with Afghanistan to prevent the passage of terrorists.
