US New Plan For Middle East

MEP: Rai al Youm has written in an article that a new trap is laid for Persian Gulf States and Arab countries called “confronting with the threat of Iran “entity”.

Rai al Youm, which is an electronic newspaper published in London, stated in an article wrote by Abdel Bari Atwan: “It seems there is a lot of evidence that shows after the United States conducted a strategic coup towards Syrian crisis, it gave up its most important objective which was to change Syria’s regime and its president. It implicitly declared that the USA is ready to compromise with Assad as the stability element and the main factor in the fight against terrorism. The Persian Gulf region, with both its Persian and Arab parts, will be a political and military conflict zone.

The US government is getting ready for the new confrontation, maybe it is not going to happen in Syria, and happen in Persian Gulf region and precisely against Iran. It is not unlikely that the US government attempts to make dispute between Tehran and Damascus by any kind of bargain or deal in the next phase to disturb the rules of the game in Syria and change the role of coalitions.

What make us to believe the idea are the remarks of an American general James Jones, who was a former NATO Supreme Commander. His remarks were published last Saturday by Asharq al-Awsat newspaper published in London. He demanded the Persian Gulf needs its own NATO called “NATO in Persian Gulf”.

General James Jones served as the Marine Corps’ commandant, US National Security Advisor in Obama administration and chief of NATO. His remarks mean that he is aware of US new plan in the region as Donald Trump come to power.

The most important point that Gen. Jones presented by proposing the project is that if the Arab States of Persian Gulf unite against the threat of Iran entity, become a military power, maintain a good commutation and create a network security information exchange, the United States will welcome such a treaty and will join it.

We have been living in the West for 40 years. When a general is retired from his main job, he will continue his work but his activates are secretly and away from sight of cameras. These generals and their experiences are used.  Gen. Jones is no exception in this regard. It is not coincident KSA’s Asharq al-Awsat newspaper chooses to address the scheme at the time.

US President Donald Trump wants to establish a Sunni-Arab treaty which centered by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Jordan. So they normalize their relations with Israel and coordinate with it to surround Iran and possibly attack Iran in the framework of the new strategy.

If we pay attention to US new approach, we’ll realize that the United States focuses on the two countries in the Persian Gulf which are Saudi Arabia and Emirates, and excluded temporarily Oman, Kuwait and Qatar. It doesn’t mention Bahrain because it has close relations with Riyadh and is home to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (CENTCOM) and U.S. 5th Fleet. So automatically, it will join NATO in Persian Gulf.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE have common interest that they are certainty the center of Sunni Extremist-Takfiri coalition and NATO in Persian Gulf, and have an important role in “decisive storm” in Yemen. The war that Trump is planning to carry out more military intervention and counter the influence of Iran.

Oman, Qatar and Kuwait are exception because the first one claimed neutrality in the war in Yemen, the second one has a weak role and the third one has a quasi-symbolic role in the war. The difference is that all three countries have very good relations with Iran. Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s president, has visited both Oman and Kuwait two months ago. Surprisingly, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad asked his counterparts in Bahr al Mayet summit to talk with Tehran based on mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs.

The danger of US new plan, which we believe is raised in recent visit of Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to Washington and US president Donald Trump’s warm welcome, is to turn Arab States and normally Persian Gulf countries into an arena for sectarian war against Iran in the future.

If the establishment of NATO in Persian Gulf actually be executed which is highly possible, countries that proposed as its main axis, will bear a huge financial cost. It is possible that after the establishment, they need to be equipped to warplanes and advanced defense systems including missile and radar systems that cost a lot for them. While their resources and fiscal reserves is eroding, and the people of these countries bear the heavy burden of austerity policies.

“NATO in Persian Gulf” exists partially or completely. It entered in the Yemen war two years ago and it doesn’t meet all its objectives. The question is that does it provide a better situation to confront Iran, in case that Egypt, Jordan and even Israel join it and cede leadership to the US?

Let’s say Sunni Extremist-Takfiri coalition win- this assumption may be unrealistic, but it is not unlikely- The question is what will be the cost of the victory? How would the situation of Arab Stares of Persian Gulf and Arab countries be after the victory? Apart from the military, how many civilians will be killed and for what?

These questions are not raised to find the answers hastily, they are raised to warn about the danger of new trap which is laid for Persian Gulf states and most Arab countries as confronting the threat of Iran “entity”.
