UN Unable To Confirm Mullah Mansoor’s Death: Spokesman
MEP: The United Nations has “no information” on the alleged death of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, UN Secretary-General spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Monday.
“We obviously have no confirmation,” Dujarric said when commenting on the issue.
Earlier in the day, US President Barack Obama confirmed Mansoor’s death in a US drone strike carried out several days ago near the Afghan-Pakistani border.
The office of President Ashraf Ghani (Presidential Palace ARG) also confirmed Mansoor’s death.
The militants’ chief was reportedly targeted on Saturday in a drone strike by the US military.
Mansoor has been Taliban’s top commander since the death confirmation of the group’s longtime leader Mullah Mohammad Omar in July 2015.
