U.S. Sanctions Two Turkish Ministries, Three Ministers

KABUL (MEP) – The US White House slaps sanctions on Turkey, enlisting three ministers and two ministries.

U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence said today morning Tuesday, October 15, that the sanctions were imposed on Turkey over Ankara’s military operation in northeast Syria.

“President Trump communicated to him very clearly that the United States of America wants Turkey to stop the invasion, implement an immediate ceasefire and to begin to negotiate with Kurdish forces in Syria to bring an end to the violence,” Pence said.

Reuters reports that Mr. Pence has been ordered by the US President to travel to Turkey at the head of a delegation.

At the same time, Pence said Trump had spoken directly to Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who promised not attack the border town of Ain al-Arab, or Kobane.

He added that Washington has not given any green light to Ankara for operations in Syria.

Turkey’s military operation in northern Syria, code-named “Springs of Peace,” has begun for the seventeenth time under the pretext of fighting Kurdish militants and creating a “safe zone” for Syrian refugees.
