Turkey Detains 11 Suspects Over Ankara Bombing
KABUL: (MEP) Turkish police have detained 11 suspects near the border with Syria who they believe are linked to a deadly car bomb attack in Ankara, the capital of the country on Sunday.
Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said a woman was “definitely” one of the suicide bombers and the second bomber was male, although his identity has not yet been confirmed. 10 more were sought in connection with the attack, he said.
However, there has not still been any claim of responsibility but Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said officials were “almost certain” it pointed to the PKK.
Security sources say the suspects were detained in the city of Sanliurfa, north of the Syrian border, after investigators discovered that the vehicle was allegedly bought from a car showroom there.
At least 34 people were killed and 125 others wounded after a suicide car bombing hit the center of Ankara, near Guven Park, on Sunday evening.
Mr Davutoglu vowed that Turkey would “take any step required to defend this country”, and said the army carried out a “very comprehensive operation” in northern Iraq targeting PKK bases, as well as rebels in the Kurdish-majority southeast.
