Saudi women, the greatest absentees in the communityMEP: Women in Saudi Arabia are deprived of even the basic human rights. With a look at the following laws, the social status of women can be discerned in the country, while the Saudi government in line with Wahhabi Mufti hasn’t granted even the most primary rights to women whose status has hit rock bottom.

No country in the world has limited women’s fundamental rights and freedom nor their right to have political and social life as did Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has the world’s lowest female employment rate (4 to 5 percent). Women are not officially allowed to start business. Employing women in many professions, especially executive management is prohibited. Women have to be given permission for any employment from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. Women work only with official permission from their parent. Average monthly salary of women is much lower than that of men.

Arranged marriage is prevalent in Saudi Arabia and fathers can marry their daughters to men without their awareness or consent.

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world where women are not allowed to drive.

Saudi Arabia is the only country where women have no right to deliver a lecture before men.

Until 2015 Women have not been allowed to vote and run in city council elections (the only election in the country); neither can they be nominated without their parent’s permission, nor are they allowed to canvass for votes without having a male representative.

Saudi Arabia, takes more stringent measures regarding women’s clothing as compared to other countries. All girls over nine years of age are forced to wear the veil and yashmak. And girls whose appearance is unveiled will lead to jail and lashes as a punishment.

None of the sports clubs out of 150 belong to women in Saudi Arabia. PE is only for male students in schools.

73.1  percent of Saudi women do not have any physical activity and Saudi Arabia is ranked first in terms of women’s lack of movement. (Wahhabi Clergymen describe female athletes as “prostitute”.

-Women are banned from setting foot in musical instrument stores.

-Women are not allowed to enter the cemetery.
