Sanders Wins In Wyoming Caucuses, Beats Clinton
KABUL: (MEP) Bernie Sanders has won the Wyoming Democratic caucuses Saturday as he celebrated a seven-election winning streak that has more psychological than mathematical impact.
However rival Hillary Clinton maintains a clear lead in the overall race. Both are concentrating their efforts on the key New York primary later this month.
The independent senator from Vermont won 55.7 percent of the Wyoming vote to 44.3 percent for Clinton, with all the ballots counted.
The eventual margin of victory was slimmer than some pundits had anticipated and fell short of his recent 58.9%-to-40.4% win in neighboring Colorado.
Nonetheless, it represented a convincing victory for a 74-year-old democratic socialist in one of the most conservative states the country.
Sanders, speaking at a rally in Queens, New York, when the state’s results were projected, announced the victory to his supporters after his wife, Jane, joined him on stage to say they had won.
“News bulletin: We just won Wyoming,” Sanders said as the room exploded into cheers.
The state awards just 14 delegates on a proportional basis, but the win gives Sanders another morale boost, ahead of the crucial primary in New York State, where voters will cast their ballots on April 19.
