‘Political Cohesion With Neighboring Countries To Fight Terrorism, Is Afghanistan’s Priority’

MEP: The Afghan Foreign Minister in a meeting with high-ranking Iranian officials said, Afghanistan’s priority is to make political cohesion and cooperation with neighboring countries to deal comprehensively with extremism and terrorism.

Salahuddin Rabbani, during the last day of his visit to Iran, held talks with Mohammad Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of Iran and Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Rabbani stated with Shamkhani that in addition to expanding cooperation particularly with neighboring countries, Afghanistan’s priority is fundamental struggle against terrorism and extremism.

Meanwhile, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said “with the development of terrorist groups in the region, it must be confronted well.”

“We must fight with the terrorists’ factors, areas of development and its sponsors including the Takfiri Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terror group with the needs to adopt an active approach at the regional and international level,” Shamkhani added.

On the other hand, Salahuddin Rabbani in the meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Javad Zarif, in the water committee, the necessity of issuing electronic passports to citizens of Afghanistan in Iran, tariffs, regulating the presence of Afghan refugees in Iran, commutation and exchange of prisoners, anti-forgery console, the issue of transit and cooperation between the two countries in regional and international meetings has consulted and exchanged views.

Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of the port of Chabahar to Afghanistan’s development and said, “This port will be able to play an important role in development of Afghanistan.”

In this regard, the Iranian Foreign Minister referred to the scourge of extremism and terrorism in the region on the need to combat terrorism.

Javad Zarif, said: “We (Iran) do not believe in good and bad terrorism and all of extremist groups must be countered.”

Rabbani’s visit to Iran was made aimed at strengthening and development of relations between the two neighboring countries.
