Palestinian Messages To The World: ‘Israel’ Disregards Your Resolutions

MEP: UN Ambassador to Palestine, Riyad Mansour, sent three identical messages to each of the UN Secretary General, UN Security Council President (United Kingdom), and UN General Assembly President, on the Israeli occupation’s insistence to send a message to the international community stating that it does not wish to abide by resolution 2334, nor any ruling of international law.

Mansour warned of the worsening situation on all sides, as in addition to the illegal Israeli settlements, the oppression of Palestinian civilians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem Al-Quds, and Israeli aggression along with illegal practices against Gaza, many analysts warn that Israel could launch a large-scale assault against the Gaza strip.

He clarified that as we draw near to 10 years of an Israeli blockade on Gaza, the international community must know of the grave crisis suffered by close to 2 million Palestinian in the strip, despite repeated calls to end the blockade. This constitutes “mass punishment”, which is prohibited under international law; and so Israel continues its blockade while things on the ground continue to worsen.

Furthermore, the occupation continues to unleash its anger against civilians there, where just days ago it launched a wave of attacks on Gaza, which led to the death of Youssef Shaaban Abou Atra (15 years old) in Eastern Rafah, the fourth Palestinian to be martyred in Gaza since the beginning of 2017.

The lack of electricity is still taking a heavy toll on the provision of basic necessities, including healthcare, and is also undermining life in an imposed political, social, and economic lifestyle, that affects daily civilian life.

Mansour called on the international community to demand the occupation to halt its military aggression against Gaza and the Palestinian people living there, and to live up to its obligations of protecting civilians there, guaranteeing that international laws be respected. He also repeated his calls for the end of the illegal blockade against Gaza.

As for illegal settlements, Mansour stressed that UNSC Resolution 2334 states that the building of settlements in the West Bank constitutes a “a grave violation under international law, and the main obstacle in the path of the two-state solution and peace.” Still, less than a month after the resolution was adopted, “Israel” announced that it will press on with plans for around 6000 illegal settlement units in the West Bank, and East Al-Quds, thereby violating the will of the international community and standing against the two-state solution. It is clear that “Israel” is cementing its occupation and colonization of Palestinian land against international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and security council resolutions, getting off scot-free.
