North Korea Releases Russian Yacht Calling It ‘Misunderstanding’

802MEP: North Korean officials announced late Sunday that they have released a Russian yacht detained by the country’s coast guards and has set sail for the city of Vladivostok.

The vessel with Russian citizens aboard had been detained in the Sea of Japan was projected to arrive in Vladivostok on Tuesday, a Seven Feet yacht club spokeswoman said.

According to BBC, the North Korean officials said the detention, which saw the yacht towed into Kimchaek port, was a misunderstanding.

On Saturday, reports emerged that North Korea’s coast guard had detained the Elfin, a Russian yacht with a crew of five, the crew members were athletes from Russia’s Far Eastern Primorsky Territory.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Saturday that a note was sent to the North Korean authorities seeking an explanation for the boat’s detention.
