Millions Rally To Celebrate Anniversary Of Islamic Revolution In Iran

n00137128-bKABUL: (MEP) Millions of Iranians started mass rallies across the country in celebrations and commemoration of the 37th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, local Iranian media reported Thursday.  

The nationwide citizens mark the victory of the 1979 Revolution, led by late Imam Khomeini, which put an end to the monarchical rule of the US-backed Pahlavi regime.

Iranian IRNA news agency aired footage of rallies in Tehran and other cities and towns across the country, many of them in frigid winter weather conditions.

The demonstrators chanted traditional slogans against the US and Israel, and the streets in many cities were decorated with anti-US and anti-Israeli banners and posters.

A large number of Iranian officials joined the Thursday rallies to remember the Revolution and voice continued support for it.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also joined the rallies in Tehran who is expected to make a speech on the occasion later in the day.

Around 5,200 journalists from Iran and other countries are covering the nationwide rallies.
