Khalilzad reiterates intra-Afghan talks

The US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Peace, following seventh round of his trips for Afghanistan Peace, met with the Afghan President and once again emphasized on intra-Afghan talks.

According to Middle East Press quoting ARG Media Office newsletter, Khalilzad was guested by Ashraf Ghani in ARG yesterday.

During the visit, Khalilzad briefed the president on his trips to Pakistan and Europe to support peace efforts in Afghanistan, and shared the details of his future plans.

According to the newsletter, the two sides emphasized the initiation of intra-Afghan talks and expressed their hope that the talks would begin as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Peace has tweeted as, the meeting with President Ghani was satisfactory and that there was a discussion on the establishment of more international peace talks.

 

According to another report, Zalmay Khalilzad met with former Afghan President Hamid Karzai last night and discussed further steps towards the Afghan Peace process.

 

The new round of Khalilzad’s trips for Afghan Peace talks began in late May and will continue until June 16th.
