Iraq’s Prime Minister: Saudi Ambassador Intervened In Iraq Affairs

MEP: Iraq’s prime minister, Haider al-Abadi said in a press conference in Baghdad: “Thamer al-Sabhan intervened in Iraq’s affairs and made inapposite remarks.

He added: “Saudi’s ambassador’s remarks were inappropriate and they were fraught with insults to Iraqis and this leads to disruption in diplomatic activity. I’ve heard about the measures the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken from the media.”

Iraq’s ministry of foreign affairs asked Saudi Arabia on August 28th to introduce a new ambassador. Following this demand by Iraq’s ministry, Thamer al-Sabhan left Bagdad for Riyadh on Monday.

Iraq’s ministry of foreign affairs has accused al-Sabhan of interventions in Iraq’s affairs since his appointment and officially protested against his intervening stance.

Some reports suggest that Abdul Aziz bin Khalid al-Shammari, Saudi military advisor in Germany may replace Thamer al-Sabhan.
