Iraqi Troops Advance In Mosul Battle, Killing Hundreds Of Daesh

MEP: Facing the Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terrorist group’s artillery, snipers and suicide attacks, the Iraqi army says its forces have advanced to the eastern edge of Mosul killing more than 100 militants of Daesh.

According to reports, Iraqi F-16 fighter jets bombed a gathering of senior Daesh figures at a hotel in Mosul on Tuesday, leaving some 67 of the terrorists dead.

As many as 29 Daesh terrorists also died in clashes with Iraqi soldiers in the al-Qabat district in the same area.

Troops entered Gogjali, an area inside Mosul’s city limits, and by noon were roughly 800 metres from the more built-up Karama district, according to Maj Gen Sami al-Aridi of the Iraqi special forces.

“The special forces have stormed in,” he said. “Daesh is fighting back and have set up concrete blast walls to block off the Karama neighbourhood and our troops’ advance.”

Bombs have also been laid along the road into the city, he said.

Later, officers said that the area had been mostly secured, and that they had captured a state television building from Daesh, which had looted the equipment but had not used the facility for broadcasting.

The Iraqi military forces have so far killed more than 500 Daesh terrorists during the battle.

In a monthly report released by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, 1,792 people were killed in Iraq battle in October, up from 1,003 the previous month. One thousand, one hundred and twenty of the dead were civilians that committed by Daesh terror group.
