Huge Fire Engulfs Brixton Tower After Explosions

MEP: A massive fire has ripped through a Brixton apartment in southern London forcing nearly fifty people to be evacuated as firefighters brought the large blaze under control.

Witnesses said the fire was caused after series of explosions in the building at around 1:20 PM Saturday. Three people have been hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed ten fire engines and 72 firefighters and officers were tackling the fire.

A spokeswoman said both the ground and first floor were completely alight as well as part of the second floor.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, one said: “We were having lunch and heard a small explosion and we saw a black cloud of smoke going up and the growing fire.

“Some seconds after the first explosion he heard one or two more, also small. There were some people in the field in front, I guess calling the emergencies.”

However, the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

Investigations have started into the incident.
