NATO troopsKABUL: (Middle East Press) Two members of NATO soldiers were killed in gunmen attack wearing Afghan military uniforms on a base in the country’s south on Wednesday, the alliance reported.

A statement issued by the alliance states that the two resolute support service members died when two gunmen wearing Afghan National Defense and Security Forces uniforms opened fire on their vehicle at an ANDSF compound in Helmand province.

“Resolute Support service members returned fire and killed the shooters,” the statement added, without revealing the nationalities of the soldiers.

Wednesday’s attack in the volatile province of Helmand is the first such incident since April, highlighting long-simmering tensions between Afghan and foreign forces.

According to statement, Afghan and Resolute Support officials are reviewing the incident and further information will be released as available and appropriate.

However, no group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
