Flydubai Flight Crashes In Russia With 61 Passengers Dead

FlyDubai_737-800_A6-FDBKABUL: (MEP) At least 55 passengers and six crew on board have been killed after a plane from Dubai has crashed on landing in the Russian southern city of Rostov-on-Don, Russian officials said Saturday.

The Flydubai flight FZ981 was en route from Dubai and crashed during its second landing approach amid poor weather conditions.

“According to preliminary data, the Boeing 738 crashed in poor visibility conditions, some 50-100 meters left of the runway,” the source said.

The Flydubai airline – a low-budget Dubai-based airline – said on its Facebook page: “”We are aware of an incident involving our flight FZ981 from Dubai to Rostov-on-Don. We are investigating.”

State news agency Tass reported that the Investigative Committee, the country’s top investigative agency, said preliminary information indicates the plane was landing when it hit the ground and broke into pieces at the airport about 950 kilometers south of Moscow.

Most of the passengers on board were Russian, the regional governor said on television.

It is believed to be the first time a FlyDubai plane has crashed.

The Emergencies Ministry has opened up a hotline while a team of psychologists has been sent to help the grieving relatives.
