Eight terrorists detained over Parliament, Imam Khomeini Mausoleum attacks

The Iranian media said on Saturday that the country’s security forces have arrested eight people in connection with the recent terrorist attacks in the capital, Tehran.

Ahmad Fazelian, an Iranian judicial official told media that the eight were accused of having provided backup for the five terrorists who carried out the two terrorist attacks on Wednesday in Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) and the Mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini.

Fazelian said seven of the individuals arrested had been nabbed in Fardis, in southern Alborz, and the remaining one had been seized in Karaj, the provincial capital.

At least 17 people had been killed and nearly 50 others were wounded after five terrorists stormed the parliament and the Mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, which involved shootings and blasts.

Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terror group claimed responsibility for the two attacks.

The United Nations and many world powers have reportedly condemned the attacks in Tehran including Afghanistan, the United States, some Arab nations and westerns.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the attack was “unjustifiable” and called for the world to work together in order to combat global terrorism.
