Deadly Gunfire and Explosion Leave 150 Dead in Paris

People were shot dead at bars and restaurants at five other sites in Paris. Eight attackers were later reported killed.

A witness tells Radio France that attackers inside the Bataclan concert hall entered firing rifles and shouting “Allah akbar.”

There are conflicting reports on the number of the people killed and injured in the attacks. Some reports say as many as 160 people have been killed. The death toll that has been officially confirmed by French authorities but not upgraded for almost an hour stands at 120.

Following the sporadic attacks, nearly 120 people, who had been held hostage by gunmen at the concert hall in central Paris were killed. Witnesses say the terrorists were shooting for 10 to 15 minutes.

Paris residents have been asked to stay indoors and about 1,500 military personnel are being deployed across the city.

The gunmen’s motives were not immediately confirmed, but one witness at the Bataclan heard one of the attackers appear to express support for the militant Islamic State (IS) group.

French President Francois Hollande has, meanwhile, declared a state of emergency in a bid to contain the security situation in the country.
