Daesh Kidnap 8,000 Families To Use As Human Shields In Mosul

MEP: The Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terror group abducted more than 8,000 families to use as human shields in and around Mosul, where Iraqi forces are waging an operation aimed at retaking the country’s second largest city.

The terrorists also killed 232 civilians near Mosul on Wednesday. Those killed included former Iraqi forces who refused to comply with terrorist orders.

They have been taken from towns and villages surrounding Mosul and brought into the city, according to the UN Rights Office.

The desperate tactics are being used as the US-backed coalition forces tighten their grip on the area surrounding the city.

Meanwhile, Iraqi forces are closing in on Mosul, recapturing villages from Daesh militants.

“ISIL’s depraved cowardly strategy is to attempt to use the presence of civilian hostages to render certain points, areas or military forces immune from military operations, effectively using tens of thousands of women, men and children as human shields. Many of those who refused to comply were shot on the spot,” UN Human Rights Spokesperson, Ravina Shamdasani told reporters.

The group is widely believed to be rooting out anyone who could potentially rise up against it, focusing on Iraqis with military training or past links to security forces.
