Daesh Behind Lorry Attack On German Christmas Market

MEP: The Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) Takfiri terrorist group claimed responsibility for Monday’s truck attack on a Christmas market in Berlin.

“One of our soldiers carried out the Berlin operation in response to appeals to target citizens of coalition countries,” a statement by the group was published on the Daesh-linked Amaq news agency on Tuesday as saying.

However, the group did not identify the attacker.

The truck attack on the Christmas market in the west of the city left at least 12 dead and another 48 injured, 24 of whom have been released from hospital, according to German police.

The claim was made shortly after German police released a Pakistani asylum-seeker whom they arrested after the attack on the basis that he matched a witness description. According to federal prosecutors, he denied involvement in the incident and there was no forensic evidence to tie him to the attack.
