Armed Taliban Kidnapped Football Team Members In Maidan Wardak

MEP: Nine members of a football team in Jalrez district have been abducted on their way back to their residential area by the armed Taliban.

Hussain Ali Bleegh, Maidan Wardak provincial council member said the footballer on Tuesday to attend the ceremony in support of security forces had gone to the provincial capital that had been kidnapped by the armed Taliban in the region of Noorkheil on the way back.

The people of the region in response for the kidnapping of their relatives, kidnapped ten civilians from Pashtun society and in exchange for their release, demanded to release the footballers. However, the footballers are still in the armed Taliban custody, he added.

Bleegh further added that locals, abandoned the kidnapped people and were promised by armed Taliban that the athletes will soon be freed.

The region of Jalrez is of insecure areas of Maidan Wardak that is also considered the roads leading to the central provinces and due to increased insecurity in recent weeks, the path is blocked to traffic and passengers, fearing for their lives, commute from Ghorband valley.
