Several Dead, 150 Injured In Germany’s Train Accident

_88174951_031358491KABUL: (MEP) Two commuter trains collided in southern Germany killing several people, police said Tuesday.

According to initial reports, eight people were killed and 100 others wounded with 50 of them critically after the trains crashed in near the Bavarian town of Bad Aibling at 6.48am on Tuesday.

“The trains had collided head-on on a single stretch of line that linked Bavaria with Austria.” A spokeswoman for police in Upper Bavaria said.

More than three hours after the crash, emergency services workers were still trying to reach people trapped in the wreckage.

Regional police confirmed in a tweet (in German) that eight people were dead and about 100 injured.

“This is the biggest accident we have had in years in this region and we have many emergency doctors, ambulances and helicopters on the scene,” another police spokesman, Stefan Sonntag, told the Associated Press news agency.
