4 people killed at ‘Tupras refinery’: Turkey

An explosion in a storage tank at a Tupras refinery in the western Turkish province of Izmir on Wednesday (October 11) killed four people and wounded two others but had no impact on production, the company said.

Tupras said in a statement that the explosion occurred following maintenance work on Wednesday morning.

Television footage showed black smoke rising from the site of the blast.

“Despite all the interventions made, employees Kemal Sasmazer, Yusuf Kepenek, Mehmet Karademir and Mehmet Dere lost their lives while the treatment of injured Halil Ibrahim Kavlak is ongoing,” the company said.
