300 Residents of Nangarhar In ISIS Prison

KABUL: (MEP) Local officials in Nangarhar province said that currently around 300 residents in the province are in Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorists jail and the National Unity Government (NUG) should take actions on their release.

GhaniKABUL: (MEP) Local officials in Nangarhar province said that currently around 300 residents in the province are in Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorists jail and the National Unity Government (NUG) should take actions on their release.

The local officials along with the elders of the four eastern provinces participated in a meeting with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani today in the province.

Ghani has arrived in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of Nangarhar, accompanied with a number of MPs and other government officials in order to hold talks with local officials and tribal elders from eastern provinces.

Zabihullah Zimarai, Nangarhar provincial council expressed deep concerns over ISIS threat and stressed that there are currently about 300 residents from Achin and Chaperhar districts imprisoned in the terrorists’ lockup.

According to him, government should take serious and sever actions in order to release them from the militant’s bans.

The source said that the local police and the public presence in the province is essential and the government must have basic program to mobilize, strengthen and enhance the capacity of the forces.

“Stating that peace is a ‘significant need’ in Nangarhar” he pointed that to fulfill this requirement, fundamental changes should be occurred as well as reducing distance between people and the government.

Meanwhile, Salim Khan Kunduzi, governor of Nangarhar said the local government has a strong management and resolution in fight against the terrorists and the destroying their roots.  

He added, to reduce the gap between local government and the people, the gates of the province is always open for the citizens’ comments.

Kunduzi to prove his statement, said that hundred of closed schools have been activated and reopened across Nangarhar with the cooperation of elders and religious leaders.

The president’s visit to Nangarhar comes as ISIS increased their activities in many districts of the province and along with that, the actions of the security forces against the insurgents have been intensified recently which caused heavy blows to the extremists group.
