The gunman Gavin Long, 29, a Kansas City resident had served in Iraq in 2008, according to two federal law enforcement sources.

The shots were fired around 9 am, kicking off a massive manhunt for the shooters.

Officials confirm that six Baton Rouge Police Officers and East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies were struck during the gunfire.

Louisiana State Police announced last week that they had received threats of plots against Baton Rouge police.

The gunman also critically wounded a deputy who is “fighting for his life,” said East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux. Another wounded deputy and police officer have non-life-threatening wounds, law officers said.
