28 Afghans Killed in Iran Traffic Accident

KABUL (MEP) – 28 Afghan citizens who were being smuggled into Iran were killed in a traffic accident in country`s Sistan and Baluchistan province.

The incident took place today, Thursday, November 14, on the Saravan-Khash highway of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchistan province.

The head of the emergency department of the Zahedan University of Medical Sciences Hospital said the incident occurred when two vehicles smuggling Afghan citizens into Iran collided.

Dr. Fariborz Rashidi said that 28 people on board were killed and 26 others injured in the massive crash.

The injured were taken to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Khash city, Rashidi added.

Sistan and Baluchistan province is constantly being exploited by opium poppy and human traffickers due to its proximity to the Afghan-Pakistani border.
