KABUL: (Middle East Press) Over 13 people have been killed and dozens wounded when fire erupted at a plastic factory building in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.

Bangladesh’s emergency service said the incident took place on Saturday, when gas cylinders exploded in the factory’s boiler room.

“It was a big blaze, which was originated in the boiler room after loud explosions. Walls of the buildings collapsed due to the impact of the blast,” media outlets quoted a senior fire official as saying.

According to reports, the entire building was overwhelmed in flames, and it took about two hours to shut the blaze down.

Sources say the victims had been burnt or suffocated after they were trapped on the upper floors.

Local police chief, Mohammad Jashimuddin, say rescuers have retrieved badly burned remains of at least 13 people.

“We’ve recovered 13 bodies,” Jashimuddin said, adding that the factory floors had been thoroughly searched.

“Three people were critically burnt and they were shifted to a hospital,” the police official added.
