Police Arrest 20 Over Kandahar Explosion At Governor House

MEP: Gen. Abdul Raziq, police chief of Kandahar province said that in connection with the explosion on governor guesthouse, nearly 20 people, including security personnel and police have been arrested.

A bomb placed in a guesthouse of governor of Kandahar on Tuesday (11 January) killed at least 12 people, including five United Arabic Emirates diplomats and two members of the national assembly. In addition 18 others were injured, including Ambassador to the UAE and governor of Kandahar.

A research staff of the Ministry of Interior and National Security Department sent to Kandahar by the Afghan government to research the case with the United Arabic Emirates teams and experts of NATO-led international forces.

The Kandahar police chief has said that in connection with the incident, 20 people were arrested, including security staff and police.

United Arabic Emirates accused the Afghan security forces of ‘negligence’ to secure the country’s embassy staff.

Mohammed Ali Zainal Albastaky, Abdullah Mohammed Essa Obaid Al-Kaabi, Hamad Rashid Saalim Ali al-Mazroui, Ahmad Abdul Rahman Ahmad Kuleb Al-Taniji and Abdul Hamid Sultan Abdullah Ibrahim al-Hamadi were the foreign victims of the explosion.

The diplomats were working in the development, welfare and education sections, according to UAE government.
