At least 60 PKK Militants Killed In Turkish Military Operation

n_93329_1KABUL: (MEP) At least 60 members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants have been killed after Turkish forces launched a military raid in southeast Turkey, state-run television reports.

The raid on Sunday night took place in a basement of a building in the district of Cizre in southeastern Sirnak Province where nearly 70 PKK terrorists were hiding.

According to the military, several high-profile terrorists had been holed up in the basement.

60 of the militants were killed in clashes with security forces. The exact circumstances of the killings were not yet known, and it was unclear whether any members of the security forces were hurt.

The PKK — considered a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU — resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July 2015.

The group was launched as an insurgency against the central government in Turkey in 1984. So far, more than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict.
