michael_mckinleyKABUL: (MEP) The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced Tuesday that it will provide $37.9 million to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).

Michael McKinley, the United States Ambassador to Afghanistan made the announcement in Kabul as a partnership between the program and MoPH that will enable the Afghan government to better identify local revenue streams in order to provide sustainable, affordable health services to its citizens.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Feroz said that foreign aid may cease in the coming years and that the ministry would work on finding alternative resources.

U.S. Ambassador P. Michael McKinley said, to launch the Health Sector Resiliency (HSR) project that financing health services has the political support and engagement from the U.S. government and the National Unity Government through multiple ministries. Sector-wide reforms are required to achieve a viable healthcare financing solution.

The money in a sense will be used so that the ministry can be more self-sufficient, instead of being heavily reliant on foreign donors.

The project will be realized in capital Kabul and 15 other provinces.
