US, Allies to Afghan Leaders: Put Your Country, People First

KABUL (MEP) – The US Special Envoy for Reconciliation in Afghanistan says the US and its allies, indeed the international community, call on Afghan leaders to put their country and their people first.

“The US-Taliban agreement provides a historic opportunity for Afghanistan,” Khalilzad wrote in a post on Twitter on Friday.

NATO urged the Taliban to reduce violence, called on the Afghan govt to end the political crisis, US envoy added.

He stressed all sides should move more quickly on prisoner releases.

Meanwhile, the Afghan National Security Council announced yesterday that 550 Taliban prisoners have been released from prisons in 18 provinces following a US-Taliban peace deal.
