UN Secretary-General visited IDP camp in Kabul

The UN Secretary General António Guterres during his one-day visit to Kabul, has visited a number of 800 thousand IDPs over the past eighteen months in the outskirts of city.

Guterres arrived in Kabul for the first time on Wednesday morning, a statement by UNAMA said.

Mr Guterres while visiting the local backcountry tents in Kabul said “today I met the people who were fasting and in solidarity with all Muslims of the world I summon my peace and tolerance.”

He stressed that the trip to Afghanistan demonstrates solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and supporting Afghan-led peace process and families that have suffered most from the war.

“All those who are associated with the Afghan crisis must come together and realize that this war has no military solution and we want a political solution, we want peace,” he added.

He is expected to hold talks with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah during his visit.
