KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 44 people have been killed and 266 wounded in two suicide bombings in a predominantly Shia residential area of southern Beirut, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
The deadly attacks took place in Burj al-Barajneh district on Thursday when the bombers blew themselves up in a busy street.
Burj el-Barajneh, a well-known commercial and residential area, famous for its shops and coffee shops, suffered extensive damage from the two blasts.
According to unconfirmed reports, the Islamic State (IS) or (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the fatal attack.
Prime Minister Tammam Salam condemned the attacks as “unjustifiable” and called on Lebanon’s rival factions to unite against “plans to create strife”.
