Thirteen Percent Of Addicts Are Women

MEP: Official statistics show that there are about 60 thousand drug addicts in Herat province of whom, thirteen percent of them are women, roughly about 8 thousand women are treated in drugs.

But why women turn to drugs, there are several factors that women become addicted.

The Middle East Press findings show that the most important factor of women addiction is the family members, as well as easy access to the drug.

Incorrect integration categories among members of the community, including the use of drugs to relieve pain and escape from psychological problems, have caused the number of women turn to drugs.

But the use of drugs for treatment entails a heavier penalty that the person is not aware of it and addicts the person over time.

Shekebaa (a pseudonym) who is a drug addict for several years, told the Middle East Press, “When I married my husband and I went to my husband’s home, I was sick and with the encouragement of my husband and his family…I turned to drugs to relieve and treat, this led me to a complete drug addict instead of getting better.”

However, there are only two clinics for women treatment of in Herat province that due to the volume of activity addicted women, the two clinics for treatment is not enough.

Drug Enforcement Administration Chief, Ghulam Jilani Daqeq says it’s expected to build a larger clinic for the treatment of men and women of addicted in the province.

He said equipment is so low in this office, but because of the increasing number of addicts is not enough.

But what negative consequences of ladies addiction will have on the community?

Experts say women addiction can bring headband and order the family to the verge of destruction and the fate of the whole family will give an aura of ambiguity.
