Taliban Seizes Several Checkpoints In Central Baghlan

Taliban in Central BaghlanMEP: The armed Taliban have made major advances in Central Baghlan district of Baghlan province from Friday onward by capturing several security checkpoints and killing dozens of security forces.

Local residents concerning on deterioration of situation in the district say at least four checkpoints that three of which belong to local police forces and another to national police located in Shahi Khel, Shafi Khel and Imam Qutayba with casualties to the security forces have fallen into the hands of the armed Taliban.

“Eight members of security forces were surrendered to the Taliban after they ran out of weapons and the Taliban violently killed them all as well as a commander of the soldiers”, a resident told the Middle East Press.

Meanwhile, Amirgul Hussain Khel, Baghlan police chief security officer in an interview with the Middle East Press said nine soldiers have been killed in clashes with the Taliban in Central Baghlan district, adding that the Taliban had no advances.

According to him, more than 10 armed Taliban were killed and their bodies remained on the battlefield.

He says clearing operations are underway in the district.

According to another report, as a result of a mortar shell landed on a house in the village of Shah Khel in Central Baghlan district, three members of a family were killed and six others were wounded.

Baghlan security officials said the rockets were fired by the Taliban.

Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
