Taliban Seizes Ghoryan District of Herat Province

n00049943-bKABUL: (Middle East Press) Hundreds of Taliban militants have reportedly launched a coordinated attack on Ghoryan district of Herat city on Tuesday evening, according to reports.

A police official in Herat who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Taliban militants so far captured the entire district building and have torched a school meanwhile.

He said the security forces are entered the area from four sides to retake the district and heavy clashes are underway.

However, Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for Ministry of Interior posted a message on its twitter account last night stating that security forces have repelled the attack on Ghoryan District.

“Terrorists attack on Ghorian district repelled by Afghan security forces, Herat Police chief with Special Forces have reached Ghorian,” the messaged stated.

This morning he posted another message stating that 15 militants were killed in last night’s battle.

Meanwhile, Noor Ahmad Haidarzada who is a member of Herat’s provincial council says that three soldiers have also embraced martyrdom and five others wounded in the clashes.
