Taliban Launches Coordinated Attack In Sar-e-Pul, Fighting Continues

MEP: Local officials in Sar-e-Pul province announced that Afghan security forces have managed to push back an offensive attack on security posts by armed Taliban, however heavy fighting continues in the region of Sheram.

Zabihullah Amani, spokesman for the governor of Sar-e-Pul told the Middle East Press, the armed Taliban’s coordinated attack started yesterday evening on security checkpoints in the areas of Balghali and Aadareng in the center of the province and continued until midnight.

He said the armed Taliban retreated from these areas after 9-members of them, including two commanders named Gul Amir and Mubarez were killed and 15 others wounded.

Two armored tank of armed Taliban destroyed by air forces and two security forces died in the fighting as well as three others were injured. Two Humvee military tank were also caught in fired by Taliban rocket attacks, according to Amani.

Heavy fighting continues in the region of Sheram, but the situation is fragile due to the presence of hordes of armed Taliban.

The Taliban shadow governor of Jawzjan province and its military authority lead the leadership of the war in the north of the country and have gathered their men from Ghor, Faryab, Jawzjan and Balkh provinces in the organization of the attack, the governor spokesman noted.

Meanwhile, Maulawi Noor Mohammad Beg, a member of provincial council with serious concern at the fragile security situation in the province told the Middle East Press, that if the government does not eliminate militant sanctuaries; leading winter and next year will be a dangerous time for the security forces in the province.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also wrote in his Twitter account that clashes with security forces in the province continue, two military tanks destroyed and did not provide more details.
