Taliban Kill 12 Afghan Troops and Take Control of Chardara District

KABUL: (Middle East Press) The Taliban insurgents have killed at least 12 Afghan military soldiers and injured 16 others in ongoing clashes in northern Kunduz province after taking control of Chardara district.

Local government officials said the clashes erupted Saturday evening around 6:00 pm following hours of gun battle between the militants and the security forces, Mohammad Yousuf Ayoubi, Head of the Provincial Council in Kunduz said.

Ayoubi added, about 70 other Afghan soldiers are surrounded by the Taliban insurgents and clashes still continue in the city. The insurgents are moving forward after taking control of the district.

Reports indicate that the Taliban insurgents have also suffered casualties but the exact number of victims were not detailed.
