Taliban Insurgents Attack Helmand Check-posts Killing Dozens of Afghan Troops

KABUL: (Middle East Press) Taliban insurgents have launched coordinated attacks on several checkpoints in southern Helmand province killing at least 20 police officers, local officials said on Saturday.

The incident took place in Musa Qala District after heavy clash erupted between Afghan National Police and Taliban militants last night.

Mohammad Issa, governor of Musa Qala District said that at least 10 Taliban militants have also killed in the conflict and many rebels and afghan soldiers wounded.

He added that hundreds of Taliban militants have taken part in the latest attacks and the battle continued until Saturday morning and the death toll may increase.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying they were part its spring offensive.
