KABUL: (MEP) A suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a popular restaurant in Mogadishu, the Somali capital, killing himself and at least three others, Somali police said Saturday.
The attacker dressed in a business suit over an explosive vest, entered the Village Restaurant on Saturday and blew up the bomb, according to police.
“So far, three civilians are dead,” Major Nur Ali, a senior police officer, told Reuters.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack that targeted the Village restaurant often frequented by journalists and government officials and which has previously been attacked by the al-Shabab armed group.
The attack is the third against the restaurant, which is opposite Somalia’s National Theater.
Somali police officer Mahad Hussein said that the bombing occurred at about 9:45am local time (0645 GMT).
“There are fears of more casualties,” the officer told DPA news agency.
